I’ve been a graphic designer for over 30 years, and I’ve been runing my own freelance studio for more than 20 of them.
So I know what it’s like to juggle clients, family, health and run a business… And I know how important simple systems are when you're juggling all of that.
Over the years I created my own shortcuts and workflows in my studio just to keep up – things that helped me design faster, make better decisions and stay consistent without overthinking everything.
For me, designing felt… easy.
Then Canva arrived. And suddenly, everyone was designing.
At first, it was brilliant. Design became more accessible. Faster. Cheaper. Less intimidating.
But then I started noticing something....
And that’s where things get frustrating.
For years, design was something only professionals were properly trained in. The strategy behind it was hidden. The principles were quietly passed around inside studios and agencies.
When tools like Canva became available anyone could create graphics. But most people were never shown how to make design decisions that actually work.
So they try harder.
They use more templates.
They spend more time designing.
They tweak colours, fonts and layouts again and again.
And still think, “Why does this not look right?”
